I was very happy to get to Dedham Vale as it was the last of nine consecutive Saturday Mighty Hikes and I was frankly astounded that I had got this far without getting injured!
Things had just hit really close to home as my lovely wife Becky had been diagnosed with malignant melanoma three days previously and it really made me realise how vitally important this fundraising is. I had a three week break before the next hike and it gave us some time to focus on getting Becky treated.
This was my first visit to this area of the country on the Suffolk / Essex border near Sudbury. It is known as Constable country and that description is certainly apt as you hike through the rolling fields and along riverbanks. There is also a fair bit of road and hard path hiking too but the hike is mostly flat with just a couple of liveners to get the heart pumping.
Overall I enjoyed this hike but I would be unlikely to do it again as it is a little too flat for me. To be honest I was mostly distracted for the entire route as unsurprisingly my thoughts were elsewhere.
