2. Thames Path

12th June 2021

The Thames Path Mighty Hike meanders from Windsor Racecourse to Remenham, just north of Henley upon Thames. The hike is completely flat apart from the step up the kerb at Marlow, and a couple of bridges over the Thames.. Not anything resembling a hill!

This hike doesn’t offer a great deal by way of spectacular scenery but it does deliver serious house envy as you walk past the huge riverside homes of the obscenely wealthy.

As this is a flat hike it can make itself felt on your feet and knees / hips as the body movement doesn’t really change throughout so pressure is put on the same impact points and muscles.

I did the hike with hiking buddy Cat Downie this year without the Macmillan support due to hikes being scheduled on the same weekend. With Macmillan’s agreement I did my version of the hike from Alexandra Gardens (right outside Windsor & Eton central station) and finished at Henley railway station.

We found the people along the way extraordinarily generous with donations of cold drinks (it was around 30c and they were very welcome) and cash – one gentleman and his wife on a large boat gave me £50!
